Dear Transit Friend

Intercity Transit recently received great news. And you, as a transit friend supporting our endeavors, deserve to share in this success. The American Public Transportation Association (APTA) has recognized Intercity Transit and Sound Transit as the first public transportation agencies in the nation to accomplish a “Gold” level signatory status for their commitment to sustainability.

Intercity Transit has long practiced planet-friendly initiatives as part of our mission to be good public steward. We signed on to the APTA’s Sustainability Commitment in 2009 as a founding signatory of this new program. That voluntary commitment places priority on preserving the environment, being socially responsible, and supporting economic vitality. Organizations signing the Sustainability Commitment effectively agree to put core internal processes and actions in place which set the basis for continuous improvement on key environmental, social, and economic sustainability indicators. The certification level is based on the actions and success of an organization in reducing energy use and waste and in protecting the environment.

This achievement is due to years of work by our dedicated employees and leadership. This success is also due to the broad public support for Intercity Transit and the value our community places on having productive and effective public transportation services.

Information about Intercity Transit’s sustainability efforts is available on our web site.

Please feel free to share this news with others. Also, attached is a press release, for your EDC bulletin.

Best,
