Choose Renewable Energy…Choose Green Power. Puget Sound Energy’s voluntary Green Power Program makes it easy for you to buy renewable energy equal to the amount of electricity you use. When you choose Green Power, you’ll support independent renewable energy projects – including wind, solar and biomass – located right here in the Pacific Northwest.

This program provides a way for you to join together with your neighbors to secure a clean, healthy, local energy supply now and for the future. Participating homes and Green Power business partners purchased nearly 300 million kilowatt hours of renewable energy in the past year, enough electricity to power about 25,000 homes. The program is consistently ranked one of the ten largest voluntary green power programs in the country.

In 2009, PSE’s Green Power Program was awarded Program of the Year by the U.S. Department of Energy, Environmental Protection Agency, and the non-profit Center for Resource Solutions.

How it works

  • When you enroll in PSE’s Green Power Program, PSE purchases renewable energy credits from regional renewable energy facilities on your behalf.
  • This guarantees that electricity from wind, solar and biomass facilities is delivered to the regional power pool (the grid).
  • Electricity from renewable energy facilities reduces the need for electricity generated from non-renewable sources like fossil fuels, creating measurable environmental benefits.

Independent renewable energy projects supported by PSE’s Green Power Program are in addition to those included in PSE’s standard resource portfolio. Green Power Program funds are directed to Pacific Northwest renewable energy facilities that supply additional electricity into the grid and PSE does not make a profit from those funds.
