2021 was a massive year for energy efficiency across Puget Sound Energy’s service area; however, we anticipate 2022 to be even more significant, especially for our small business and large commercial customers.
Below are four commercial programs available now to help business owners cut down on their overall energy consumption and save while doing so.
Commercial Retrofit
Get up to 70 percent of the cost covered for energy efficiency upgrades.
You can save on energy efficiency upgrades for your business site with customized incentives that support your energy efficiency project and goals.
Current PSE commercial retrofit grants include:
- Custom Grants
For most non-lighting retrofits, PSE incentives provide up to $0.35 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) or $5.00 per therm of projected annual energy savings, up to 70 percent of the total cost of equipment and installation.
- Comprehensive Small Industrial
PSE provides comprehensive energy savings support for small industrial customers, including incentives up to 70 percent of costs for non-lighting energy projects and site visits to scope future energy-saving projects.
- Advanced Rooftop Control (ARC) Joint Utility Rebate
PSE, Seattle City Light, Snohomish County PUD and Tacoma Power offer a $225 per ton rebate for electric and a $50 per ton rebate for gas toward qualifying ARC installations.
- Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF)
PSE offers $3.00 per square foot of conditioned space for VRF systems.
- Pay for Performance
Deep retrofits targeting at least 15 percent energy savings with PSE incentives up to $0.35/kWh or $5.00/therm, plus a performance incentive of $0.05/kWh or $0.50/therm for savings above the proposed target.
Energy Management
Fine-tune your business site’s energy efficiency and savings.
You can lower your business’s energy bills without making a heavy investment. PSE’s commercial energy management programs can help you identify low-cost/no-cost operations and maintenance upgrades, with incentives that can cover some or all of your implementation cost.
Current energy management programs include:
- Clean Buildings Accelerator Program

- Commissioning Programs
Existing building commissioning
Monitor based commissioning
Building tune-up
Post-occupancy commissioning
- Industrial System Optimization Program (ISOP)
